CUPE LOCAL 3651 BARGAINING 2021 SURVEY

Dear Members,

The Canadian Union of Public employees (CUPE) bargains a central collective agreement with 55 Ontario hospitals including ours.

Central bargaining covers most issues: general wage increase, employment security, seniority, contracting out, health and safety, grievance procedure, benefits, sick leave and much more.

Some issues, however, are deemed “local issues” and are bargaining by your local union. These issues include wage adjustments for classification where there is evidence that they have fallen behind their comparators, scheduling, weekend offs, cancellation of shifts, time off between shifts, vacation scheduling and others.

Our local union will be entering into local issues bargaining this fall.

Your bargaining team would like to hear what your priorities are. Please fill in this brief survey on your local issue’s priorities. We estimate it will only take 7 minutes.

Our current contract expired on September 28, 2021.  Please complete this survey by June 29, 2021.

This is YOUR contract.  We need YOUR input.

L3651 Vice President Wayne Stevenson Elected as Ontario Council of Hospital Union (OCHU) Vice President of Area 3 (GTA)

Good Afternoon Members,

It is our pleasure to announce that Wayne Stevenson was nominated and acclaimed to the position of Area 3 Vice President.

Having Wayne Stevenson as both Local Executive Vice President and Vice President of Area 3, Wayne is now the representative of the Seven hospitals of Area 3 (GTA) at the Ontario Council of Hospital Union (OCHU) level.

This is very important as it’s a bargaining year for CUPE and having our Vice President as our greater voice, he will be able to use his extensive knowledge to stand up for all CUPE members. We are proud that Wayne’s home hospital is Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Let us congratulate Wayne Stevenson, we have faith in his leadership as he has shown executional leadership skills.

Many years ago our previous Local President Joe Reddy held this seat. After many years and taking in Joe‘s knowledgeable foot steps, the position is back in the hands of Markham Stouffville Hospitals local executive.

Thank you all for all your support,

Shelly Pollard
President
CUPE Local 3651

BILL 195: AN ACT OF BETRAYAL FOR FRONTLINE WORKERS

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Ontario government declared a state of emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA). This allowed them to pass many emergency orders, most of which allowed employers to ignore sections of our collective bargaining rights.

THIS FACTSHEET is based on Bill 195 at the time of first reading. Bills go through a committee process and three readings before being passed, so it may change before becoming law.

For more information on how Bill 195 will affect you please contact your local executive.
