Notice of April 30 Meeting when Officer nominations will take place
April 30 at 3:30pm will be an important membership meeting when you can volunteer to be on your local’s Executive Board, or act as a Trustee for your local. You volunteer by nominating yourself for one of the 11 officer positions:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary-Treasurer
- Recording Secretary
- Lead Steward
- Health and Safety Chair
- Membership and Communication Chair
- Equity Equality and Diversity Chair
- Trustee 1 (one year term)
- Trustee 2 (two year term)
- Trustee 3 (three year term)
Other than the one and two-year trustees all terms of office are until May 2027.
Please review Sections 7 and 10 of your bylaws regarding officers and nomination of officers. (accessible at cupe3651.ca)
If more than one person accepts nomination for any position an election will take place within a month of the meeting so members can vote for their preferred candidate.
Nominees will be given 5 minutes to make a speech at the April 30th meeting.
To be nominated you MUST be at the meeting. If you cannot attend the meeting and want to be nominated for a position you must:
1. Write your name and the position you want to be nominated for on a piece of paper.
2. Sign the paper.
3. Ask a co-worker to sign the paper
4. You or a co-worker must bring the paper to the beginning of the meeting (before nominations for that position have closed) and give it to the Chair of the meeting.
The meeting will be in the Auditorium in the Health Services Building, and there will be a virtual option to join.
The option to participate in the meeting virtually will be provided by a new secure meeting and voting system called Motion Meetings that CUPE National has confirmed is constitutionally compliant.
All members who have signed up for the union mailing list before April 29 will receive a unique ‘magic link’ to join the meeting virtually. To make sure you are on the union mailing list login to the member portal and make sure your ‘primary email’ is correct.
- DO – Check your email to find your magic link.
- Search your inbox for an email from noreply@motionmeetings.co with a personal, unique link.
- If you don’t see it, check your spam folder. If you find it there, move it into your main inbox.
- DO – Click your magic link to open Motion on your browser.
- No downloading apps or sign-ups required, one click for secure access to your meeting.
- Our system is optimized for Chrome but works on other browsers too!
- DON’T – Share your magic link with anyone.
- Your magic link is personal to you. Sharing it with others may limit your access to secure meetings and voting.
